Pugs and Crows Score a 2013 Juno Nomination for Instrumental Album of the Year

Pugs and Crows are pleased to announce that its latest album, Fantastic Pictures, produced by Chris Gestrin (Jim Byrnes, Swollen Members, Nickleback, K-OS), is in the running for a 2013 Juno Award for Instrumental Album of the Year! The band has worked incredibly hard over the past five years releasing two albums (Slum Towers, 2010, and Fantastic Pictures, 2012), and successfully touring it back and forth across the country, performing at several international jazz festivals along the way. With a mandate for collaboration, Pugs and Crows has worked with well-known Canadian dancers, vocalists, visual artists, and videographers, who all find a common narrative in the band’s instrumental music. It’s music that speaks to everyone, winning over the hearts and ears of audiences from their hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia all the way to Halifax, Nova Scotia! The music’s eclectic nature, simultaneously ethereal and evocative, with soaring melodies coming in and out of focus, layered with gritty textures and odd-metered grooves, appeals to all audiences. Pugs and Crows 2012 release, Fantastic Pictures, is true testament to this aesthetic. Its immaculate production brings out the musicians’ technical mastery of their instruments as well as the band’s unified, energetic blend of indie rock and jazz. After years of playing in front of diverse crowds at venues across Canada, Pugs and Crows present Fantastic Pictures, a culmination of their love of playing together and always putting forth the best, most innovative music they possibly can. Stay tuned as they take the Juno Awards by storm on Sunday, April 21st, 2013. Thanks to all of our family, friends, and fans for your ongoing support!

“Ten overlooked albums worth checking out”

Blending indie rock and modern jazz, Pugs & Crows exhibits a playful, absurdist bent on Fantastic Pictures. The album is mostly instrumental - although Debra-Jean Creelman guests on one track - and mostly upbeat, as the title indicates. Hear a couple of songs from the album at here.
